Jeg la fram papaer:: “Norwegian media´s underreporting of Norwegian co-responsibility for regime change in Syria”. Jeg legger ved sammendrag (abstract) her:

This paper addresses Norwegian media coverage of  Syria in the period 2018-2024. After the Assad regime collapsed on 8 December 2024  Islamists in Hayátr Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) came to power with the support of other militia groups. In May 2017 Norwegian special forces crossed the border from Jordan to Syria to train islamist groups. An interesting question is

to what extent the Islamist groups Norway trained, who had also been guilty of gross

violations of human rights, may have contributed to this regime change. The empirical basis for the study is empirical data from the database Retriever covering the presence of Norwegian special forces on the ground in Syria. The research question is to what extent the presence of Norwegian soldiers were mentioned during the coverage of of regime cahnge in December 2024. The investigation will be carried out using critical discourse analysis based on Norman Fairclough's theory and framing theory based on the works of Robert Entman. The hypothesis that Norwegian media did not mention Norway`s military role in the regime change was confirmed.
